INSTILLING GENEROSITY IN CHILDREN

Wells Fargo recently posted a valuable article entitled, Five Ways to Encourage Your Kids to Volunteer and Give Back. “By teaching lessons in gratitude and generosity early on, you set kids up for a lifetime of giving back to those in need, to their local communities, and to cherished causes.”

The article suggests that one of the most effective ways of engaging children in giving is to find out what sparks their interests. Do they show particular care or concern for a cause? For example, “If your child likes pets, they might be interested in a local animal rescue group. Once a group is selected, look for opportunities to support them by donating time or money. For extra motivation, you might agree to match the donations your child gives.”

More suggestions are provided around the following ideas: create a family tradition, volunteer during vacation breaks, get active while giving, and give during birthdays.
